“Flowers” were the first flower images David created with his GAN code — training it on pictures that he had taken himself. He had been experimenting with other pictures of natural subjects, but decided to focus on something smaller and more specific. Later, for his “Learning Nature” works, he took pictures of flowers against a neutral background to better focus the AI on the subject rather than the whole scene.
