Alexander Reben’s work probes the inherently human nature of the artificial. Using tools such as artificial philosophy, synthetic psychology, perceptual manipulation and technological magic, he brings to light our inseparable evolutionary entanglement to invention which has unarguably shaped our way of being. This is done to not only help understand who we are, but to consider who we will become in our continued codevelopment with our artificial creations.

We exhibit AI generated faces - ‘Kamanthia Dorios’, named by an AI and generated in part by parameters influenced by the artist's brainwaves, gaze and/or body signals. Model by Joel Simon & artbreeder. AR by Artivive. This work was feat. at Ars Electronica Festival in 2019. You can add one to your collection, by receiving a physical card 5’x5’ inches signed by the artist.

David Young is an artist who has spent his entire career at the leading edge of emerging technologies. From projects using early supercomputers and the dawn of the web, to contemporary global innovation and artistic initiatives, David has been a champion for new forms of creativity and expression enabled by technology.

At Cadaf 2021, we present new work by David -‘Quantum Drawings’. Quantum computing promises a radical shift in computing power. Once achieved it could render the cryptographic security used by the blockchain and NFTs obsolete. David Young’s ‘Quantum Drawings’ visualize data generated by a quantum computer. They explore how beauty can give us new intuitions for emerging technologies. And are a meditation on the new and its eventual obsolescence.Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Entangled Others Studio
Entanglement is a complex state one where no single entity can be said to be separate, or somehow unaffected, by any other present entangled, we cannot consider ourselves without others, act without interacting, speak without being heard.
It is a multitude of you, and others, equally present and alive, together.
The rich substrate of the uncanny, eerie spaces between us and the non-human world cannot remain as an aesthetic space, our world cannot bear this self-imposed distance and denial of our inter-twined state of us and others.
Becoming entangled others studio is about moving further into an entanglement with the more-than-human world of us & others. A world where diversity and inter-connectedness are nurtured and engaged.

'Dawn Feeders', from the series 'Hybrid Ecosystems' is an unveiling of our entangled world, where the seemingly separate, digital & physical world in fact are tightly interwoven, communicating and interacting. By prompting neural models trained on the vast mundane visuality of our world, these pieces are an exercise of re-imagining within the familiar, allowing for neural-speculative visions of reality to emerge.

I am working in the Visual Effects Industry as a cgi/3d artist . I’m also a photographer and a software developer. I started using Machine Learning and Neural Network based Artificial Intelligence technology around 2015. I’m using optical flow analysis tools to capture and manipulate motion from moving footage. I’m building and using my own tools using Open-sourced and custom code. LuluxXX is a personal project to explore my taste and creativity and to refine my code. I enjoy manipulating still digital images and motion sequences in a transformative or generative way. Neural Mist' is a reinterpretation of Dimitri Kirsanoff early impressionist short film ‘Brumes d'automne’ (1929) starring her wife Nadia Sibirskaïa.

‘Strange melancholic blurry eyes , that moment right before the tears , the world loses its shape , out of focus lights and shadows.’ I'm using 'artificial intelligence' technology to transform early cinema footage. Motion and shapes are extracted from the original pictures and feed different 'neural networks' to generate abstract visualisations. I like to imagine this new vision embeds the imperfections and nostalgia while bringing a different emotional state to the viewer.

’Como una extrella fugaz’, 2020.

Maria Garcia, born in Cumana edo sucre Venezuela, now working in a car wash, lover and rescuer of animals, since childhood she drew dolls and put a band and a crown on them, she drew clothes; her dream was to be a designer or fashion model, she drew dresses that had a unique form not repeated. She learned about crypto art through dada, a community for drawing, where other artists respond to each other with a drawing; it's almost like she started drawing in digital, each one in their own weird style, now one of her passions is drawing cars.

‘Como una extrella fugaz' pero con finas aspas giratoria llega lumina de fuego mujer hecha velocidad y elegancia.
Like a fleeting star but with fine rotating blades, comes a woman’s firelight made of speed and elegance.

Sofia Crespo is a generative artist working with neural networks and machine learning with a huge interest in biology-inspired technologies. One of her main focuses is the way organic life uses artificial mechanisms to simulate itself and evolve, this implying the idea that technologies are a biased product of the organic life that created them and not a completely separated object. On the side, she is also hugely concerned with the dynamic change in the role of the artists working with machine learning techniques.

In addition, we’re glad to offer also a unique cyanotype by Sofia Crespo.

Why a cyanotype? As this is meant to be a unique print, the cyanotype process acts here as the merging of the analogue and the digital allowing for a unique print that is produced only once following which the print negative is destroyed. Furthermore each cyanotype is in itself unique due to the nature of the process (it's an organic process wherein no two prints expose exactly the same), adding to the piece's one-off quality.

My main inspiration for this has been the 19th century botanist Anna Atkins (also claimed to be the first woman to create a photograph).” - SC.

Osinachi (born Prince Jacon Osinachi Igwe, 24 October 1991) is a self-taught digital artist whose work explores personal experiences within a technological environment. Osinachi, who grew up in Aba, Nigeria, produces drawings using Microsoft Word, where he utilizes the basic limited design palette of the word processing software to create narrative illustrations. Africa’s foremost cryptoartist, Osinachi‘s works are further registered in the blockchain and sold as non-fungible tokens (NFTs). In 2018, he became the first-ever Nigerian artist to showcase artworks at the Ethereal Summit, a conference in New York that seeks to bridge the gap between technology and art through blockchain.

We’re glad to present here two emblematic and powerful works by the artist.

Osinachi is a brilliant protest artist. Rather than depict dramatic scenes of struggle and conflict as is often typical with protest art, his weapon of choice is to highlight normalcy and positivity.

Like all great artists, Osinachi is a mirror of his times, and the topics he addresses -- from environmentalism to racism and single parenthood -- resonate far outside the borders of Nigeria. He is a reminder of what art and artists can be for us all when they are performing at their best and fulfilling their most important function within our increasingly global culture.

Kjetil Golid is a generative artist and system developer from Norway, with a keen interest in algorithms and data structures.
It was this interest that kickstarted his endeavours within generative art, originally using visualization as a tool for understanding various algorithms. These visualization exercises gradually shifted their focus from being pure, "correct" implementations of well-known algorithms, into a more esoteric realm where the underlying structures mostly serve the purpose of making intricate and aesthetic visuals.

Today, Kjetil's projects are often initiated by the question "What would it look like if ..."; an unfinished idea of a home-grown algorithm together with a visual translation, where it is unclear how the end result will look.

Kjetil wants to share his mindset that programming is a wonderful platform for creative expression and, as such, large parts of his code is open for anyone to explore and manipulate. In addition to making static pieces, he also makes interactive tools for generating visuals without the prerequisite of knowing how to code.
